European health review

Montpellier | June 4th 2010

What are the trends for Benelux?

Siveco Group has been working with the medical sector for several years in both France and Belgium. As with the rest of Europe, the Benelux (Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg) is also arriving in a new demographic, social and technological era in terms of health. At the same time the rapid evolution of technology and regulations means that a constant effort is needed to find ways to gain efficiency in organisation and management. Paul-Henri De Fays, Solution Manager for NSI Belgium replies to some questions for CMMS NEWS.

What are the current trends in the Health sector?

The Benelux is seeing some big changes in the Health sector at the moment, notably, hospitals merging together and promoting the development of large new infrastructures. These mergers require the institutions to re-think the organisation of their technical services.

Implementation of a CMMS tool facilitates the sharing of resources and knowledge and helps harmonise internal procedures. This in turn increases the level of competence and efficiency of the technical services.

What about the regulation of the Health industry?

Although there are a few differences between the regulatory framework used in France and that used in Belgium, the majority of it is the same.

The regulation of the Health industry evolves and the monitoring of standards is becoming more and more sophisticated. A good CMMS is becoming more and more important to help hospital managers meet these new requirements. Medical professionals must meet the increasing demands for regulation and for equipment safety.

Can the Coswin 7i Healthcare solution be adapted to meet the needs of Benelux hospitals?

The Coswin 7i Healthcare solution was initially developed to answer to the needs of the French medical sector although a simple adaption of specific terminology and organisation methods is sufficient to make it useful to the Benelux countries too. The training that is specific to the medical industry is not the same here. For example there are no Biomedical Engineers.

It was necessary to make some changes to Coswin 7i Healthcare to bring it in line with the specific needs of Benelux hospital establishments. The software had to speak our language. Thanks to the flexibility of the Coswin though, this was a very simple thing to do.

We have a network of four hospitals plus another three individual hospitals that use Coswin in the Benelux. The ergonomics and focus on the medical industry make the Coswin 7i Healthcare package stand out from other CMMS solutions. Many other Benelux hospitals are planning to implement the Coswin solution over the next few months. Another feature that clients in the Benelux benefit from is the interface with Map Suite (Facilities Management software) and LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol).
