What benefits can CMMS provide ?

Interview - What benefits can CMMS provide ?

1) According to you, what are the benefits of CMMS for Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)?

The ERP type tools don’t benefit from the modules that make it possible to manage and follow up on all the maintenance. It is not their objective. The specialised CMMS packages such as Coswin 7i Healthcare are designed to answer to the needs of all the services and departments of a hospital. More and more health establishments are opting for a single CMMS solution that can be used by all of the principle departments that are necessary to keep a hospital running smoothly. Coswin 7i Healthcare is specifically for the technical, the biomedical and IT services. The important thing is how the work requests are processed. The systems used may differ between the services and the work must be allocated to the correct service.

The challenges for health establishments can be numerous, from economic, human, regulatory and technical consideration. To have a single management tool that can be used by staff of all departments can be immensely beneficial.

2) Can you give us a brief introduction to the Coswin solution?

Coswin 7i Healthcare is a version that has been designed in partnership with our clients in the health sector. It includes things such as pre-configured user profiles for positions in each of the three principle services such as work requesters, maintenance managers, stores managers and purchasing staff as well as many others. There are graphical indicators that display data relevant to the user’s profile and the screens for the different profiles have been modified to suit. The database is pre-parametered and a matrix is available to import existing data from other applications.

The application is ready to use right out of the box although further customisations are always possible.

3) Can the solutions really be adapted to the needs and structure of each different establishment?

There are many needs in a modern hospital and the need for maintenance is everywhere. Not only in the 3 principle departments that I mentioned earlier. A solution such as Coswin 7i can be configured to be used by all departments, the laundry service, the vehicle fleet, security, everything.

4) How would you explain the concept of system interoperability? Why is it so important? And how do you integrate your solution with existing hospital systems?

In most of our projects, integration with the existing Hospital information System is essential. Therefore an ‘open’ CMMS is essential. Interfaces with other software (used for ERP, structure, human resources, technical management etc) are required by many clients and regularly put into place. This type of integration can be achieved with a program such as Coswin 7i Healthcare either by technicians from the company that provides the software, or by a transfer of tools and competences that allow the establishment to do the integration themselves and remain independent of the software provider.
