The CMMS Coswin solution for Fameccanica

Case Study
The Coswin solution for the management of multiple installations used by the Italian company FAMECCANICA
The CMMS challenges for FAMECCANICA were to break down the incident and service request processes of its users and to ensure the traceability of maintenance operations. In order to address these challenges, this industrial group, specialized in the manufacture of pharmaceutical products, chose a global CMMS to consolidate its maintenance operations. After choosing Siveco’s Coswin 7i solution for the management multi-installation (buildings, computers, technical services…), FAMECCANICA adapted it to match precisely the different services and staff needs. Operational since 2007, CMMS has not been integrated in the same way in each department.
Franco-Italian maintenance
The CMMS project was conducted by the Siveco Italia team and started in 2007 at FAMECCANICA. Originally, the Coswin CMMS should primarily administer maintenance operations at the production site.
At the end of 2007 the maintenance service was restructured and FAMECCANICA reorganized maintenance as a result. CMMS operations were entrusted to a Facilities Management Service Provider, but despite what is commonly proposed, FAMECCANICA wished to remain the owner of the CMMS tool and to keep the original Coswin software. It is certainly more sensible to own the CMMS tool if one day there is a need to change provider and retain the equipment history…
Once the Project was agreed for the management of all maintenance work with only one software package, the essential elements for deployment were identified and a survey was launched to count all assets whether linked to production or not.
The main objectives expected of Coswin were to optimize the management of inter-service job requests by the technical department, to ensure the traceability of actions, to obtain reliable and efficient performance indicators and finally to have a follow-up of preventive and corrective maintenance services carried out by maintenance providers.
Maintenance for multiple departments
In order to share skills and optimise support of maintenance operations the Maintenance and Production departments were first integrated. Management of current maintenance operations is performed easily with Coswin. To simplify use of the software by all users and technicians, maintenance is planned for geographical zones, which allows rapid navigation for CMMS users. For example, offices are numbered to simplify the creation of job requests. CMMS also manages user profiles and access rights: each group of users can only access defined functions.
Following the analysis phase at the end of 2007, FAMECCANICA achieved the first objectives. Thanks to Coswin, FAMECCANICA DATA reduced maintenance and supply costs which provided a return on the initially approved investment from the end of the first operational phase of the project onwards.
Given the success of this Coswin CMMS implementation, it was deployed during 2008 and 2009 for general, security and environmental, then most recently for Information System services.
General services use the Coswin 7i Maintenance module for managing maintenance service providers, for purchasing not related to production, occupants services, building maintenance etc. CMMS also handles constraints linked to Equipment security, environment, conformity and quality.
Today Coswin is about to be deployed in the Information System department. Functionality such as «Feedback, Stock and Equipment» contributes to better management of computer equipement (PCs and printers). Over time the aim of the department is to optimise daily use of the application, optimise functional operations and improve the quality of information and reporting.
The solution has already been a great success: starting from only 3 licenses, today there are more than 800 CMMS users across all departments. Beyond the management of current maintenance, FAMECCANICA now has real-time visibility of equipment, requests and maintenance activities. Making reporting tools available allows an overview of supplier activity. |
