Customer testimonial: The Port of Dunkirk

“Thanks to Coswin 8i, we manage more than 1500 job requests per year, more than 6000 preventive maintenance interventions, more than 4000 jobs or supplies purchases and about 3500 stocked items”

Interview with Marie-Hélène Mahé, IT & Networks Development Manager at the Port of Dunkirk.

Located on the North Sea, the Port de Dunkerque benefits from Large Seaport status. Its facilities spread over 17 km allow to receive more than 50 million tons of goods per year. Capable of accommodating the largest ships, The Port of Dunkirk sees 600 of them pass through every day. The extent of the port, its attendance level and its number of equipment with a constant need of monitoring, require a powerful and efficient maintenance. In 2014, a global customised CMMS tool has been deployed in order to benefit from
a 360° vision on port facilities and to optimise the maintenance management. Coming back to the integration of the Coswin solution (edited by Siveco Group) with the testimony of Mrs. Mahé, IT & Networks Development Manager at the Port of Dunkirk.

In 2014, the Grand Port Maritime de Dunkerque calls upon Siveco Group, (editor of Coswin 8i) to integrate a new complete CMMS solution. Work Orders (WO), equipment lifespan monitoring, financial
management and stocks follow-up.

Objective: Obtain a 360° view and improve maintenance services management.

« We started working with Siveco group in February 2014 and in January 2015, the application was launched. We were particularly impressed by its ease of use and deployment.”

The CMMS solution is used for the maintenance of works and tools, the management of quays, roads and lock gateways, fixed bridges or buildings.

We use the Coswin 8i solution mainly for our different interventions, but also to realise WO and plan tasks. During 6 years, many specific developments have been made in collaboration with Siveco Group’s
development department in order to simplify our maintenance management. For example, our planning tool has been tailor-made. »

"The management of maintenance budget has become simpler"

Although Coswin 8i allows the team of Port de Dunkerque to produce reports, the solution goes further, facilitating therefore the budget management.

« The solution is interfaced with the financial information system. With Coswin 8i, we have the possibility to have a cost projection in advance, whereas our old solution only allowed us to make a simple restitution.”

In concrete terms, the tools makes it possible to create a job request, which is handled by the department concerned.

“We create Work Orders. The requester can follow the progress of the work via the application. If any new material is necessary, a purchase request linked to this WO is then created and directly transmitted to the
financial department.”

The software allows, thus, to obtain a complete traceability of all the requests, which is a real advantage.

« As with the financial department, we have also interfaced our stock management software to Coswin 8i in order to consult the status of our stocks directly in the application. »

Preventive maintenance to reduce breakdowns

With Coswin 8i, the equipment lifespan management has become more reliable. Upgrading to a higher version of the software has allowed access to job requests to 400 users.

« Thanks to the software, preventive maintenance works are systematically programmed. Coswin 8i informs us when to carry them out, thus we avoid many breakdowns. “

Today, job requests are fully automated. Every Monday, Coswin indicates the WO to be launched during the week.

“Of course there is always some human control. But we no longer need to verify in an Excel plan chart to find out if the date on which a WO is to be generated is reached. The daily work is significantly lightened, knowing that we realise more than 6500 WO per year. It is a real time and efficiency gains, but above all a means of ensuring safety for all passengers and users of the port. ”

In 2019, Coswin managed:
