On 19 November, the event ‘Data and AI for maintenance today and tomorrow’ was held, bringing together professionals, technicians and companies to analyse the concrete impact of artificial intelligence on maintenance processes.
Organised by Siveco Italia and presented by Assodigit, the meeting explored the main factors influencing the success of AI-based projects, with a particular focus on the role of data, process quality and governance.
AI: the crucial role of data
During the round table discussion, contributions from Giovanni Cinquegrana, Paolo Ferrandi, Giulio Capasso and Stefano Betti highlighted:
- the importance of data culture as the foundation of any AI application
- the limits of indiscriminate accumulation of information
- the value of meta-determinism and contextualisation
- the impact of human error on the quality of data sets the need for structured, standardised and respected processes
The discussion showed that smart maintenance requires synergy between cutting-edge technologies, operational skills and organisational responsibility. AI cannot generate value if it is not based on reliable data and robust processes.
The collaboration with Assodigit has enabled us to integrate different perspectives and provide a comprehensive overview of the challenges – and opportunities – that AI brings to the world of industrial maintenance.
In addition to the technical discussions that emerged during the round table, the event also offered an overview of developments in maintenance and how Siveco Group integrates new technologies into its CMMS systems, with a presentation by CEO Carlo Fichera, who contributed by sharing the group’s long-term vision on the evolution of the sector and the real needs of businesses
Speech by Carlo Fichera, CEO and founder of Siveco Group
During the event, Carlo Fichera, CEO of Siveco Group, shared a unique perspective gained from over forty years of experience in the CMMS sector. He traced the evolution of maintenance from the 1980s to the present day, highlighting how a discipline once considered marginal has now become one of the most strategic functions for companies, particularly in the face of new challenges posed by AI, IoT, cybersecurity and international regulations.
In his speech, he illustrated the global growth of the group, which operates in Europe, Africa, Asia and South America, and the importance of supporting customers through the ongoing geopolitical and technological changes. He also emphasised that maintenance, although strategic, remains a complex niche that is often underestimated in budgets, with the risk of relying on generalist platforms that are not suited to the sector’s needs.
Carlo Fichera reiterated the need to maintain a pragmatic approach that balances innovation and investment sustainability. In a context of rapidly evolving technology, he reminded his audience that companies must avoid impulsive choices and focus on solutions that are truly usable in the field. That is why the group continues to develop Coswin by integrating IoT, BIM, GIS, BI and automation tools, with the aim of offering flexibility, stability and operational continuity.
A presentation that served as a reminder that, in order to be effective, innovation must be based on expertise, practical experience and a clear understanding of real industrial needs.
